CGT - Ely is a resource for students who have signed up for guitar tuition or for anyone who would like to learn.

Commencing January 2024 you will find helpful tips to compliment your lessons as well as information that may be of interest within the scope of music generally.

Lessons are taught by myself. I have played guitar for approximately 18 years. Within that time I gained a BA (Honours) in Humanities (Music) which taught me a lot about music theory as well as music history and culture. It deepened my understanding as to why we, as humans, make music and how important it is! I studied ABRSM practical musicianship exams whilst being taught guitar by Tim Christmas, a Cambridge based guitarist whose help has been invaluable over the years.

I teach classical guitar but if acoustic finger style on a steel string instrument is your preference we could go that route. However, I still encourage some classical lessons to help gain a solid technique and to interpret standard notated music which will be advantageous no matter what style of music you like to play. Reading music is integrated into the lessons so you will learn what you need as you progress. Exceptionally, if additional music theory help is required I can offer concentrated lessons if appropriate.

I am a patient tutor. Guitar, like any instrument takes time to learn and every student may take as long as necessary to become a competent guitar player, we go at the student’s pace.

I tailor lessons to suit the individual student and use different methods and music as appropriate. I am mindful that if a student struggles with any particular aspects of guitar playing, I will have probably experienced the same issues myself so I know how to  iron out difficulties and mistakes!
